Obituary for Robert J. Michalek

Robert J. Michalek
Robert J. Michalek, 81, of
Niagara Falls on Tuesday,
June 20, 2017 at Northgate
Health Care Facility after a
lengthly illness under the
care of Niagara Hospice.
Born on February 6, 1936 to
Mary (nee Dlugosz) and
John Michalek of Niagara
Falls, NY.
Robert attended Niagara
Falls Schools and Trott
Vocational Center. In his
early years, he traveled to
California and Arizona on
the quest for gold. He then
joined the Army where he
served for two terms.
Robert truly enjoyed his
time in the military. He was
stationed in Europe and
traveled on the weekends
with his army buddies.
Upon discharge, he
returned to Niagara Falls
and cared for his parents.
Robert was employed
for over 30 years with
Carbon-Graphite (formerly
Airco) and retired on
October 1, 1998 at the age
of 62. Throughout his life
he enjoyed his friends and
spent his spare time
hunting, shooting, fishing,
boating, diving and
treasure hunting with
them. He was a supporter
of the NRA and a past
member of the Niagara
County Sportsman Club
where he was considered
an avid marksman.
In the past 29 years,
Robert was in a relationship
with the "love of his life,"
Kathleen Walder of
Wheatfield. Together they
spent much enjoyable time
traveling, shopping, visiting
friends and especially
camping at Long Beach,
Canada. He will always be
remembered as a good
friend, great story teller and
an extremely generous
person. Robert is also
survived by several cousins
and friends.
Friends will be received
by the family on Friday,
June 23, 2017 from 4-8 PM
at Brunner Funeral Home
(692-3841), 156 Robinson
St., North Tonawanda.
Graveside service with
Military Honors will be held
on Saturday, June 24 at Mt.
Olivet Cemetery at 11:00.
It is requested that
memorials be made to the
Niagara Hospice Activity
Fund at Northgate Health
Care Facility, 7264 Nash
Road, North Tonawanda,
NY 14120 or the charity of
your choice.
